I just saw this video on Rush's web site.
Gore no longer believes that Iraq was a terrorist state and does not think that we should have invaded Iraq. Seems funny, not surprising but funny that he can flip flop on this issue and the media and everyone just ignores anything that was said in the past.
I never thought Al was the brightest guy in the world anyway and who knows if he really thought Iraq was a terrorist threat back in 1992 or was just saying that to try and Make Bush 41 look bad. Foreign affairs and Democrats never really mix anyway, he should stick to what he does best which is raise illegal campaign funds and make bogus documentaries about global warming.
The military does not seem to agree with the Democrats.
The top U.S. commander in the Middle East warned Congress Wednesday against setting a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, saying it would impede commanders in managing U.S. and Iraqi forces.
The assertion by Gen. John Abizaid seemed to put him at odds with some Democrats pressing the Bush administration to begin pulling out of Iraq.
But that is just a General speaking and we know that since he is in the military and stuck in Iraq he is probably not very smart, at least according to Mr. Kerry.
General Abizaid contends that specific timetables limits our flexibility.
In arguing against a timetable for troop withdrawals, Abizaid told the committee that he and other U.S. commanders need flexibility in managing U.S. forces and determining how and when to pass on responsibility to Iraqi forces.
"Specific timetables limit that flexibility," the general said.
But an enlightened, well educated Democrat Senator explained how the General is wrong.
Reflecting the division of opinion on how to proceed in Iraq, the next chairman of the committee said the administration must tell Iraq that U.S. troops will begin withdrawing in four to six months in order to force them to take responsibility for their own future.
"We cannot save the Iraqis from themselves. The only way for Iraqi leaders to squarely face that reality is for President Bush to tell them that the United States will begin a phased redeployment of our forces within four to six months," said Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich.
I may not be the smartest guy in the world so I sometimes rely on advice from others. In a case like this I will take the General's advice, since most politicians lack any real common sense.
Well, it did not take long for the Dems to start preparing to enforce their Iraq Policy, which appears to be "Cut and Run!"
Democratic leaders in the Senate vowed Sunday to use their new congressional majority to press for troop reductions in Iraq within a matter of months, stepping up pressure on the administration just as President Bush is to be interviewed by a bipartisan panel examining future strategy for the war.
The Democrats — the incoming majority leader, Sen. Harry Reid, of Nevada; the incoming Armed Services Committee chairman, Sen. Carl Levin, of Michigan; and the incoming Foreign Relations Committee chairman, Sen. Joseph Biden, of Delaware — said that a phased redeployment of troops would be their top priority when the new Congress convenes in January, even before investigating the conduct of the war.
The Democrats have been saying for a long time now that our troops are not as good as the Insurgents and have wanted to pull out. Now I know what you are asking, when did the Democrats say that our soldiers were inferior to the Insurgents? Well, they did not say those specific words but every time they say we are loosing or that we cannot win this war that is essentially what they are saying. How else do we take it? What do you think our soldiers think when they hear it?
We can and must win this war, my fear is that the Democrats will do loose it for us, which is what the terrorist want.
The Price of Freedom
No one likes war, least of all me. Being personal friends of the Bush family, I can assure you they don't like it either.
We all felt the same when we heard about the 100-plus troops who have died in Iraq in just the past month. One is always too many.
Each of them has a family left behind – those who will suffer over the holidays and beyond because of the bravery of their loved ones.
I do understand their pain, every time I think about my brother, Wieland, who also paid the ultimate price in Vietnam. I'll never forget when I received the news. I miss him still, all the time.
My brother fought a foreign war, as many of our service members do today. I refuse to believe that he died in vain. I also refuse to believe those 100 souls (plus the hundreds previously) did as well.
Their sacrifice makes me think of Jesus' words, "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.'' I'm assuming that includes world friends and neighbors too.
Well it looks as though Mr. Hussein’s days are numbered.
A U.S.-sponsored Iraqi court on Sunday found former dictator Saddam Hussein guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced Hussein to death by hanging.
It also appeared that he did not take the news to well, I guess it would be a shock to be on the other side for a change.
Upon hearing his verdict, a visibly shaken Saddam called out "Allahu Akbar!" (God is Greatest) and "Long live the nation!"
So since he will die by hanging does he still get the 72 virgins a day for eternity?
