With all this talk about a "universal" health care for all Americans it makes me wonder just how dumb the Democrats and their followers actually are. I guess many people can be allured by the idea of "free" health care for everyone, who could oppose that? The problem is "free" is never "free" and at what additional cost are we looking at?
First, I would point out that we already have Socialized Health Care run by our government for our soldiers and we can all see how well that is working.
But what about other countries with socialized health care? How well are things going for them? Walter Williams gives us some statistics as to how things are going...
London's Observer (3/3/02) carried a story saying that an "unpublished report shows some patients are now having to wait more than eight months for treatment, during which time many of their cancers become incurable." Another story said, "According to a World Health Organisation report to be published later this year, around 10,000 British people die unnecessarily from cancer each year — three times as many as are killed on our roads."
The Observer (12/16/01) also reported, "A recent academic study showed National Health Service delays in bowel cancer treatment were so great that, in one in five cases, cancer which was curable at the time of diagnosis had become incurable by the time of treatment."
Yeah that is great! You can see a doctor, eventually and maybe get treatment before it is too late and you will have no out of pocket expenses. Well, except for an enormous tax burden and higher gas prices due to a larger gas tax to pay for the government health care.
But what about Canada you ask?
The story is no better in Canada's national health care system. The Vancouver, British Columbia-based Fraser Institute has a yearly publication titled, "Waiting Your Turn." Its 2006 edition gives waiting times, by treatments, from a person's referral by a general practitioner to treatment by a specialist. The shortest waiting time was for oncology (4.9 weeks). The longest waiting time was for orthopedic surgery (40.3 weeks), followed by plastic surgery (35.4 weeks) and neurosurgery (31.7 weeks).
Canadians face significant waiting times for various diagnostics such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound scans. The median wait for a CT scan across Canada was 4.3 weeks, but in Prince Edward Island, it's 9 weeks. A Canadian's median wait for an MRI was 10.3 weeks, but in Newfoundland, patients waited 28 weeks. Finally, the median wait for an ultrasound was 3.8 weeks across Canada, but in Manitoba and Prince Edward Island it was 8 weeks.
Yeah that sounds great.
We have all heard the phrase; If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it does it make a sound?
Well, the French have decided that if they prevent people from filming riots and other acts of violence then maybe that is as good as preventing them. That pretty much sums up the French, Surrender and if you cannot do that bury your head in the sand and pretend that everything is ok. Ah the spineless French.
What am I talking about? Well the French have now made it against the law for citizens to film acts of violence. In other words, if you are in France walking down the street and see a group of men beating up another man and pull out your camera phone and film it you have broken the law. You will now be facing up to 5 years in prison! Meaning that the said perpetrators that you filmed will probably serve less time than you for filming the act.
The French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists. The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.
So the next time the the Muslim, Islamic youths riot in the streets the French Government can make sure that nobody knows about it.
Problem solved.
Ignorance is bliss...
I do not understand the religion of Islam, from everything I see it appears to be a religion of hate and injustice. Take for example this. A woman is gang raped and then is sentenced to 90 lashes for the "crime" of being alone with a man not related to her.
A 19-year-old Saudi woman who was kidnapped, beaten and gang raped by seven men who then took photos of their victim and threatened to kill her, was sentenced under the country's Islamic-based law to 90 lashes for the "crime" of being alone with a man not related to her.
Are you kidding me? Talk about no tolerance. What about the rapists you ask?
Five of the rapists were arrested and given jail terms ranging from 10 months to five years. The prosecutor had asked for the death penalty for the men.
The Saudi justice ministry, however, said rape could not be proved because there were no witnesses and the men had recanted confessions they made during interrogation.
Yeah, that's justice alright. So in as little as 10 months these men will be free to rape again or blow up market places or do whatever it is that they do. The scales of justice are balanced...
Chris Matthews is a fool, most people know that. But what is the deal here? Is he really foolish enough to go on the air drunk?
Give Ridge credit, it looks like he wants to laugh but somehow manages to hold back his laughter...
I just checked the web sites of all of the major news networks and found something predictable. All of the sites (ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, FOX) have a story or headline about the Ann Coulter Slur regarding John Edwards. However, only FOX has a headline about Bill Maher's despicable remarks about Cheney. Why is that? Is it worse to use a gay slur like "Faggot" than it is to wish that someone were killed?
Well, it is not, they are both bad but it once again illustrates the inept biased media not doing its job.
As I said before the liberal media will not expose someone with whom they agree with and the evidence continues to bear that out.
Don't bother looking for it via Google News. There hasn't been a single major story published on him since Charles Rust-Tierney appeared in Court. A local source sent me this, which Google either didn't capture, or hasn't spidered, yet. Previous coverage here and here.
You can not hardly find any news about this nor is it possible to find a picture of this clown either. This man, Charles Rust-Tierney was busted with some very disturbing child Pornography.
The videos described in the complaint depict graphic forcible intercourse with prepubescent females. One if the girls is described in court documents as being “seen and heard crying”, another is described as being “bound by rope.”
He was a Chapter President for the ACLU who fought the right of children to view pornography among other things! Yet, the mainstream media still does not think this is worth reporting.
I get my neighbors mail in my mailbox all the time, but I am happy to report that I never got anything like this by mistake.
Two packages containing human body parts — including a liver and part of a head — meant for a medical research lab instead were delivered to a home.
The body parts, sent from China, were mistakenly dropped off Thursday at Franck and Ludivine Larmande's home by a DHL express driver who believed the bubble-wrapped items were pieces to a table.
"My husband started to unwrap one and said, 'This is strange, it looks like a liver,'" Ludivine Larmande said. "He started the second one, but stopped as soon as we saw the ear.
"Something wasn't right. It was scary, and I'm glad I didn't open them."
So that is bad news for him but there is bad news for the rest of us too.
Authorities believe 28 more bubble-wrapped human organs and body parts could be dispersed across the country, the newspaper said. Two of five packages headed to the northern Michigan lab broke open, scattering their contents.
"There will definitely be a shock to people if they see these things, but there is no hazard to health," Parent said.
So be careful if you get a package from DHL.
As a side note that I thought this was kind of funny, the following add image was next to the story.
When will it stop? I am so tired of hearing about Anna Nicole Smith and all the drama surrounding her life!! I long for the day that I can watch a news cast and not hear another story about her.
Sorry if that sounds heartless... actually no I am not.
I came across this and got a little chuckle at first, I then read the comments and saw the Bush bashing and it got me to thinking. What did President Bush sign into law and does it justify him being referred to as “the King of the Universe” and other snide remarks? Well the short answer is no.
In the aforementioned post this article was referenced and this is what he quoted from it:
President Bush has signed an order asserting the United States' right to deny adversaries access to space for hostile purposes.
What the blogger failed to mention is that if you actually take the time to read the article you would notice that President Bush did not just sign some new space policy but in fact updated our current policy. Furthermore the policy did nothing more than define where the United States stands on the whole space exploration issue.
"Freedom of action in space is as important to the United States as air power and sea power," the policy says. "In order to increase knowledge, discovery, economic prosperity, and to enhance the national security, the United States must have robust, effective and efficient space capabilities."
The policy says that space systems should have rights of passage without interference, and that the United States would view any deliberate interference with its space systems as an infringement on its rights.
"The United States considers space capabilities -- including the ground and space segments and supporting links -- vital to its national interests," the policy said.
"Consistent with this policy, the United States will: preserve its rights, capabilities and freedom of action in space; dissuade or deter others from either impeding those rights or developing capabilities intended to do so; take those actions necessary to protect its space capabilities; respond to interference; and deny, if necessary, adversaries the use of space capabilities hostile to U.S. national interests."
When you read the entire article then it makes more sense and is understandable as to what the policy is all about. If one really wanted to know what the policy says you can read the unclassified version here. It is fair for the United States of America to protect its space assets whether they are in space or here on earth.
Plus if you want to bash President Bush why not bash Jimmy Carter, he signed a space policy that made similar statements as did other Presidents?
I also realize that some of the comments are in jest and are funny but the overall theme is one that I see to often and that is to take anything that President Bush does and to spin it so that he looks like a moron. It bugs me sometimes and I have to at least add my two cents.
Ok all my alcoholic friends, beware.
Federal investigators were set Tuesday to begin an investigation into a fire that ruined about 4 percent of America's yield of hops, used as flavoring in the brewing of beer and ale.
So will beer prices go up?
Based on an industry official's estimate of the quantity of hops in the warehouse, the loss could amount to $3.5 million to $4 million. The impact on brewers and beer prices was unclear early Tuesday.
Glad I do not drink beer.
