I just read that President Bush will commute Scooter Libby’s Prison sentence. While it is not as good as a pardon which was what I would have preferred it is still nice to know that Scooter will not go to prison for a non crime.
I know that the press will rail on Bush for this but I actually
think this will help his poll numbers. The liberals already hate him
and his base (including me) have been growing more and more frustrated
with him, by commuting the sentence I think this will help him with his
base. It really cannot hurt him. I guess it could backfire and his
numbers could sink down to the level of the Democrat controlled Congress. I doubt it though.
I came across this and got a little chuckle at first, I then read the comments and saw the Bush bashing and it got me to thinking. What did President Bush sign into law and does it justify him being referred to as “the King of the Universe” and other snide remarks? Well the short answer is no.
In the aforementioned post this article was referenced and this is what he quoted from it:
President Bush has signed an order asserting the United States' right to deny adversaries access to space for hostile purposes.
What the blogger failed to mention is that if you actually take the time to read the article you would notice that President Bush did not just sign some new space policy but in fact updated our current policy. Furthermore the policy did nothing more than define where the United States stands on the whole space exploration issue.
"Freedom of action in space is as important to the United States as air power and sea power," the policy says. "In order to increase knowledge, discovery, economic prosperity, and to enhance the national security, the United States must have robust, effective and efficient space capabilities."
The policy says that space systems should have rights of passage without interference, and that the United States would view any deliberate interference with its space systems as an infringement on its rights.
"The United States considers space capabilities -- including the ground and space segments and supporting links -- vital to its national interests," the policy said.
"Consistent with this policy, the United States will: preserve its rights, capabilities and freedom of action in space; dissuade or deter others from either impeding those rights or developing capabilities intended to do so; take those actions necessary to protect its space capabilities; respond to interference; and deny, if necessary, adversaries the use of space capabilities hostile to U.S. national interests."
When you read the entire article then it makes more sense and is understandable as to what the policy is all about. If one really wanted to know what the policy says you can read the unclassified version here. It is fair for the United States of America to protect its space assets whether they are in space or here on earth.
Plus if you want to bash President Bush why not bash Jimmy Carter, he signed a space policy that made similar statements as did other Presidents?
I also realize that some of the comments are in jest and are funny but the overall theme is one that I see to often and that is to take anything that President Bush does and to spin it so that he looks like a moron. It bugs me sometimes and I have to at least add my two cents.
I do not know how else to explain it but to say that the Dems are clueless when it comes to foreign policy. I read here and here where the blame for the problem with North Korea is President Bush’s fault for calling North Korea the Axis of Evil! Give me a break! For some reason the Democrat leadership believes that if Bush would have just spoken to North Korea in direct talks that all of this could have been resolved. These are the same Democrats that say we should always get the WORLD involved to solve problems, then when Bush does that and it fails then we should have just engaged in direct talks. More of the same old crap!
But here is the thing, I do not understand how this is President Bush’s fault that we are in this situation with North
Korea. He did not give them the means to build the weapons and they were making them long before he took office. His only crime was speaking the truth. North Korea is evil! How can anyone claim that they aren’t? They are literally starving their people, they have always been a rogue nation that has been lead by lunitics. But just for grins, let’s look at the timeline of events.1969: North Korean soldiers cross the border and kill 4 soldiers of 3d Battalion, 23rd Infantry
1976: 18 August, North Korea crosses the border and uses axes to kill 2 US Service men.
1985: North Korea ratified the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
1993: North Korea says they will withdraw from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty
1994: Clinton with his home boy Jimmy “Peanut” Carter work a deal with Korea. The deal is this; North Korea pledges to freeze and dismantle its nuclear weapons program, the U.S. agrees to give North Korea everything they need to build the nuclear plants as well as supply 500,000 metric tons of fuel annually!
1999: Since North Korea has behaved so well Clinton agrees to ease economic sanctions against North Korea.
2000: In July North Korea is upset because their nuclear reactors have been delayed and not complete (we now know because they were using it to make weapons not power) and threatens to restart their nuclear program if Washington does not compensate them for their power losses.
2001: A year later it is reported the North Korea is developing long range missiles.
2001: In December Bush warns North Korea about building weapons of Mass Destruction.
Jan 29, 2001: Bush calls North Korea, Iran and Iraq the “Axis of evil”. (I wonder what would cause anyone to come to that conclusion?)
2005: North Korea publicly declared that it possessed nuclear weapons and pulled out of the six-party talks hosted by China to find a diplomatic solution to the issue.
The rest is history. Now we are where we are and I doubt that the comments by President Bush are the reason we are in this mess now.
